With Marco's father's journal as a guide, their wild adventure takes them through distant lands and mystical times. Very little is known about his childhood except details gained from his own book.

The only thing that makes the text special is its provenance. The origin of the popular title, Il milione, for example, is not quite clear. Many Europeans were very surprised to learn how populous, rich, and complex the East was and the accounts of the people showed that they were very much like Westerners. Many of the stories are hard to believe. But in contrast when it is good it is really good.

The great journey and tales of riches would inspire other explorers such as Christopher Columbus during the Age of Exploration. Hard to imagine Polo could recall his travels in such detail with the sheer amount of miles he covered in his life maybe he was journaling as he went.
